A Dodge and Burn of Elin ...

Click on image for larger version

I was trying to figure out a couple of things, and used a image of Elin that I thought was suitable.
I always seem to change things slightly. For this I ended up with 5 dodge and burn layers. I like to have them separate so I dont mess up to much. You can see the 5 layers merged to one below. there is a lot of dots in there =), looks like a starfield.

Here is a black and white version too.

Old Pinup Style with Linda Marie

I have shot Linda Marie for my Hollywood  Portraitsproject ( www.lutzimages.com ) and now she wanted to use some of her different sailor outfits, in somewhat painted old pinup style. I love the works of Harry Ekman , Gil Elvgren, Art Frahm and the others, so I was eager to at least do some tests.

For some backgrounds and props I chose to use a 3d application ( Strata 3d ). Im not good with modeling but can get away with simple shapes. So I built the anchor and the steering wheel among other things. Below the steering wheel in wireframe mode.

A fun thing with a 3d software is you can change the material as you like. Heres the steering wheel in metal for instance  =)

Heres another background from Strata.

Linda Marie performs in burlesque shows as Chesty von Ellem, so I made a little poster type image for her.

.. we also did some other style of images. So this will be continued ....

Retouching a face challenge ...

At Model Mayhem there was a new challenge the other day to retouch a face, that looked like fun. Sometimes its nice to do a retouch on someone elses image. Heres some images showing before and after as well as the layers and a crop of the Dodge and Burn layer.

The photographers name is Rafael Telles.

Dodge and Burn mask for the part under the right eye. To get a good looking aand smooth skin, a good but timeconsuming method is Dodge And Burn. Many ways to do it. A common version is to make a empty layer set to Overlay as blend mode and then paint with white and black to add or decrease contrast in the image. This is often done at pixel level ( if you have the time, or do make up ads =) ). Other versions are to use two Curves adjustment layers ( one dark, one light ) and paint in the layer masks to change contrast or the other way around.

Image below is the layer mask that shows what I did to even out the skin under the right eye. A face has many pores =) .

And here is a black and white version of the image. This is a little larger, click to view larger version.

A taste of Honey ..

I have shot Honey once before, in my home studio. This time we was going to do an outdoor session. Unfortunately we could not use the boat we were supposed to shoot at, so we went to a small public beach in Stockholm, Smedsuddsbadet.

As usual when I go out with a camera, the sun immediately rushes behind a cloud,  this time was no exeption. At the end of the shoot we got a little sunset though, but its was so little I had to make it a little better in post production.

Here is a try with some of the natural light.

On our way from the beach we stopped at a small wooden house and shot some more natural light images. I use the Canon 50mm 1.8 for these.

Honey is a little of an acrobat. here she effortlessly climbed this lamppost and made som tricks.

Some shots from a beautiful cemetary...

Click on image for larger version.

A couple of miles from where I live theres a huge cemetary, Skogskyrkogården ( Forest Cemetary ). I had been wanting to get some sunset shots there for some time. heres a few of them.

Strangely enough, both days I was there, the closer I got to the place, the more the sun went behind som clouds. I could actually see that for every step I took the darker it got. And I really wanted som evening sun. Well the second day I waited out the sun that finally showed its yellow face.

Image on top looks kind of dramatic, more in the vein of Indiana Jones =) than a swedish suburb cemetary.

Most of all I wanted to take a 369x280 panorma. It looks like this.

Below some nice hills. I love backlight.

And this one looks more like a golf course in Palm Springs =) I shopuld have placed some green flags in there.

Pride Parade day in Stockholm ...

Yes, the Pride parade was today and I went in to town to get some shots. Here are some of the shots.

The sailor suit girl below is Linda Marie, whom I've shot on a number of occasions.

The horses did not have to follow any dress code.

Looks like a demonstration in the 60s in black and white.
