Forum Challenges

Click on image for larger vesrion.

Being a forum addict, I at times participate in different challenges. At Model Mayhem, photographer Black and Blue had a challenge where to make her photo into something commercial looking. So here is my version after extracting and retouching, and below the original.

Various concepts with Angy ...

When Angy came to visit we tried a number of concepts, both strange and somewhat normal =)
In my mind I saw her in front of a gigantic poster, made of rolls with spaces, so I made some of those in a 3d software. The background is a church in Rome that I shot a few years ago.

I am the owner of a very cute and small Morris Mini Slave Flash. Its so small you can have it in your hand. So thats where the light is coming from in the image below, where Angy use a firefly to light her way in the cave ( a shot from a vacation in Crete ). Skull and other things are from ).

Same thing was used in the image with the drawn lightbulbs.

Had an idea of a shot from top in a desert so I tried that on this image.

The Session with Johanna Halle

Click on image for larger version.

It was our first shoot and we tried a number of things, and some came up when doing the post processing, like the stamps.

The first image ( on top ) is shot with me standing on a chair, using the Sigma 10-20 on my camera pointing right down. Added both tile and water texture and also distorted Johannas features that should seem to be under water. That was a fun shot to retouch. Gave me some new ideas as well.

Below is one of the three stamp collages I did.

Strange but wonderful pose from Johanna. Im not sure what she is doing really.

And here is a portrait. Very sweet face. Added a little light in post.

Coming session with Johanna Halle ...

Johanna and I have been trying to find time for a session for some time now. Finally we found some time that suited is both and we shot images until we were all blue in the face ... It was a very nice session to do. So now Im in the middle of retouching for a couple of days.

Its been a while since I did a session in my home studio, so I was eager to to try some new things out in Photoshop. Sometimes you do to much though. The image above is only a detail in another image, where I needed Johanna to hold a stamp, a big one =), and it took a while to figure out how to make a image look somewhat like a stamp.

Smoking ....

I managed to stop smoking one and a half years ago, and hesitated to get a lighter or matches, as I was afraid I would wake up the old nicotine beast. So why would I want matches?

Well on many sites I have seen nice images of smoke, almost vectorlike, in the beautiful lines the smoke can create.

So I went to a store called Indiska and bought some incense and a pack of matches. I set up my Sigma 500 Super to the left of camera and a black sheet on the back of a chair, as a background, and the incense in a glass on the chair.

Changing the color temperature ( white balance ) I made it a little blueish.
And later I experimented with som extra shallow dof and layer combinations in Photoshop.

This was a fun experience. What is nice with abstract lines like this, is that your brain decides what it looks like. Bleow to me loks like saome tulip leaves in green water, or just something that got stuck in Homer Simpsons nose, and backlit =)

Ooops, I slipped

Click on image for larger version

I thought I would make a shot of some fruits, but did not get the lighting right ( was going for a sunset light and gelled my Vivitar 285hv ), so a photographic "comb over" would be to cover up by adding something else to the scenario.

One would think that losong a finger may be to high a price to pay just to make a post in the blog, and I actually agree on that. Thats why I still have eleven fingers, and instead did a two shot composite , one with finger and one without and then unmasked the finger part. Found some blood on the great site with free images,

From Rednex to Rare

Daniel and Thomas in the band Rare.

I have known Ubbe Landgren for many years. Our paths were crossed at a music store
in Stockholm, Estrad Musik, where I freelanced as a sampler sound designer and made demos for Ensoniq samplers.

Urban later had a successful group called Rednex for many years.

Now he had started a new group with two singers, called Rare. And they needed some publicity shots.

Daniel and Thomas drove up from Gothenburg and we met in my homestudio. I wanted to take both solo, duo and trio shots.

So here is Daniel with a background from Rome.

... and here pretending to be on stage.

I like Thomas filmlike look on this one.

... and here is a group shot with all three.

And here is a  strange one. .. Sicilian sort of =)

Photoshop Tips 3 - Liquid with Chrome Filter

This is a rather simple but fun way to make "liquid" things, text or abstract.

1. We start by making a simple layer and write some text.

Then we run Filter>Artistic>Plastic Wrap Filter. Then we get this( below ).
Duplicate this layer.

3. Newt we run Filter>Sketch>Chrome ( all settings full for this ) andlastly set the layer to Overlay as Blend mode. Done.

Experiment with settings of Plastic Wrap and Chrome. Try on faces or flowers or whatever. Cool things can come out. A couple of dots may look like fairytale gems ( with imagination =) ).

Also use Levels on the Chrome layer to control some of the highlights. That was done to top image.
